LINEAR CITY DEVELOPMENT, LLC is an urban-centric real estate development partnership based in Los Angeles, California. The entity was established in 2001.
LINEAR CITY is focused on transformative projects which are located on the urban frontier. The partnership has concentrated on the development of high density, mixed-use projects in the central city area and has a successful track record of turning blighted areas into vital neighborhoods.
The principals of LINEAR CITY, Leonard Hill and Yuval Bar-Zemer, are both long-time Los Angeles residents who share a deep commitment to the City and the possibility of re-establishing Downtown as a dynamic metropolitan center. Through a combination of technical expertise, financial resources and a deep understanding of the evolving urban landscape, the partnership has pioneered downtown projects that have set the standard for livability and design in downtown.
LEONARD HILL : Partner
Mr. Hill is a native Angeleno, born in 1947 at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital. A 1965 graduate of University High School, Mr. Hill received his B.A. (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from Yale University and an M.A. from Stanford. He began his professional career as a writer for television, eventually working as a network executive at NBC and ABC before starting an independent production company, Leonard Hill Films (LHF), in 1980. LHF produced over 50 television movies and three series with a combined production budget exceeding $300,000,000. Hill was the founder and chair of Allied Communications, Inc., a television distribution company that was sold to Pearson, Plc in 1994. Hill is also a Cornerstone Founder and past Board Member of the Los Angeles Conservancy.
YUVAL BAR-ZEMER : Partner
Mr. Bar Zemer was born in Israel and graduated from the Music Academy of Jerusalem. In 1987, he abandoned a promising career as a saxophonist, moved to Los Angeles and founded Dekel Construction. In 1997, Bar Zemer joined the CIM Group, LLC as the Vice President of Construction. He is a founder of the Institute for Field Research (IFR), a member of the Planning Committee of the New Cities Foundation (NCF) and serves on the Board of the Los Angeles River Artists and Business Association (LARABA). Bar Zemer, his wife Gudrun and his two daughters, Yasmin and Miriam live in Downtown Los Angeles.
DAN GROSSMAN : Vice-President, Design
Mr. Grossman was born in Israel in 1963. He founded DanGrossmanArchitects in Tel Aviv where he specialized in the design and construction of boutique hotels, including the Red Mountain, Pier and Aviv properties. Mr. Grossman moved to Los Angeles in 2001 where he established Design-Build General Contractors. Mr. Grossman joined Linear City in 2011 and was instrumental in orchestrated the successful completion of the Seventh & Bridge project.
SIMON GONZALES : Controller
Born in the Manila, Mr. Gonzales graduated from the University of the Philippines with a BS in Accounting. Gonzales began his professional career in 1987 at the Herbert Construction Company in New York City. In 1996, he moved to Los Angeles to join the Moorfield Construction Company as Assistant Controller. Gonzales then moved to work at the CIM Group, LLC as Project Accountant. In 2002, he joined Linear City as Controller.
JOHN COLAO : Director of Marketing
Mr. Colao received his BA from the Boston University College of Communications and did graduate work at New York University with a concentration in photography and film. In 1985, Mr. Colao moved to Los Angeles where he established his photography studio in the Arts District of Downtown. For over 20 years, Mr. Colao produced advertising and marketing material for a broad range of clients including Sony, Warner Bros., Miramax, Interview Magazine, and Los Angeles Magazine. In 2003, Mr. Colao joined Pusle Advertising where he focused on art directing and marketing for the film industry. In 2011, Mr. Colao joined Linear City as Director of Marketing where he was responsible for the branding and marketing of the highly successful 7+Bridge Lofts.
